PEI GOLF REPORT

The Palmer Pearl will be the first LPGA sanctioned golf course designed for women by a woman.  Vicki Martz, one of only three women golf course designers, is VP and senior course architect with Palmer Design.  She has designed a number of conventional golf courses and is thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the design team on this one.  Mr. Palmer and his group have designed over 300 courses all over the world and believe that a golf resort that will provide a comfortable and unique environment for women to enjoy the sport is long overdue.

The PGA of America and the National Golf Foundation have completed studies that indicate the participation of women golfers is rising every year and that the baby boom generation is golfing and traveling in ever increasing numbers.

Palmer Course Design Company is proud to have designed courses that have hosted the Nabisco Dinah Shore and the Mitsubishi World Championship for the LPGA.  Numerous Palmer courses have been recognized for their women friendly design.

The new Palmer Premier design is recommended because it, not only includes Mr. Palmer’s highest level of participation, but also PCDC’s direction and involvement in all areas of the facility (operations, agronomics/maintenance, clubhouse design and marketing).  This program is ideal for five-star facilities that want to create a total golf experience that is reflective of Mr. Palmer’s Style, character and integrity.

As a youngster, Arnold Palmer grew up working alongside his father, Deacon Palmer, the head golf professional and course superintendent at Latrobe Country Club. By the time he was a teenager, Arnold knew the bend of every fairway, the sand in every bunker and the contours of every green at Latrobe. His love and understanding of golf course architecture began early. Today as president of Palmer Course Design, Arnold is more passionate than ever about creating challenging golf course designs.

To understand that passion, all One has to do is watch Arnold and his design team walk the land of a potential golf course site. It’s like watching master sculptors contemplating a block of marble. Limitless possibilities are explored and ideas begin to flow and form: an undulating green here, a water hazard running adjacent to the fairway, perhaps a group of tall sycamore trees impeding one’s approach shot. From these ideas a plan evolves that will maximize the land’s potential and meet one man’s meticulous standards—Arnold Palmer’s. Every course has to reflect Arnold’s love for the game.

For over 30 years, those standards have been the guiding force for more than 250 PCDC golf course projects covering 37 states and 20 countries. As a result, Palmer Course Design Company has grown to become one of the world’s leading golf course planning and design organizations.

Marriott Victorian Hotel Conference Centre & Spa

When complete, Malpeque Park will be a place like nowhere else in PEI.  Adult visitors and local citizens alike will be able to enjoy a lifestyle heretofore not yet experienced in PEI at the 5-star Marriott Victorian Hotel and Spa.  Gracious living in a serene setting will reflect the spirit of this “Gentle Island”. An ideal place to rejuvenate mind and body, visitors will enjoy a superb spa, exquisite cuisine, life on the sandy beach and superb golf at the Palmer Pearl Premier, while children make new friends, learn new games, crafts and sports at the adjacent supervised campground.

This 5-star Marriott Resort built in the Victorian style, so appropriate for PEI, will anchor the accommodation component of the project.  Designed for romance, this seashore facility on the edge of the Provincial Park will feature lagoons, trails, botanical alcoves, horse drawn carriages and a quaint non-denominational chapel.  This resort will boast a truly idyllic setting ideal for weddings, honeymoons and personal renewal.
